Abstract : The fruit was stored at room temperature (29-35 deg C) and low temperature (5.5-7.2 deg ), the latter at a higher RH. Treatments at room temperature comprised 6% Waxol-W-Emulsion and pre-packaging (1-kg lots in 200-gauge polythene bags with 0.6% ventilation) and a combination of both. At low temperature only waxing was tested. Both treatments reduced weight loss and spoilage and there was a better retention of vitamin C and acidity in treated fruit. Reducing and total sugars were greater in control fruit, but both treatments decreased respiration and prolonged shelf life. The combined treatments were more effective than either alone.
