Abstract : This publication presents the results of experience gained in the application of the Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) by a group of socio-economists in Embrapa. Various case studies are presented, which examine the impact of investments in transportation infrastructure on the competitiveness of pigmeat exports; the effect of the cost of working capital on the performance of Brazilian cashew nuts; the competitiveness of soyabeans in different production systems; the competitiveness of the perennial crops apples and mangoes; and the competitiveness of sugarcane in various regions of Brazil.
