Abstract : Anthracnose is the most important post harvest disease of mango and presents great challenges for the production. The causal agent, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides use diverse strategies for invading host tissue, ranging from intracellular hemibiotrophy to subcuticular intramural necrotrophy. By understanding the histopathology of C. gloeosporioides, changes in the anatomical structures and their progress of disease can be studied. The hyphae of C. gloeosporioides invade through the subcuticular region and disorganises the epidermal layer and parenchymatal region. The vascular bundles were greatly affected, the size of xylem and phloem vessels were reduced and abnormal in shape. Because of the invasion of mycelium into the epidermal and mesophyll layer, dark brown discolouration and lesions were observed in the leaves and fruits and by the interruption of xylem and phloem vessels, blockage of nutrients will be created which leads to necrotic lesions in the host plants.
