Anatomical screening of mango (Mangifera indica L.) seedlings for use as dwarfing rootstock.

Abstract : Mango cvs Olour, Vellai-kolamban, Mylepalium, Ambelavi, Dashehari, Belkhas, Parikhas and Ati-bombai were studied. Data are tabulated on the percentage of stem and root bark, number of vessels/unit area in stems and roots, area of vessels (roots), average plant height, area of metaxylem (stems), and average area covered by the tree canopy (in m2). Based on these findings the cv. Vellai-kolamban showed the least and the cv. Dashehari the most vigorous growth potential (low bark percentage is known to be correlated with high growth vigour and high bark percentage with low growth vigour).
