Depletion of soil moisture by young mango trees with and without irrigation.

Abstract : Trials during the rainless period between February and May were carried out with 5-year-old trees of 8 mango cvs. The trees were either irrigated every 10 days or not irrigated. Moisture depletion, on both plots, was determined at depths of 0-30, 30-60 and 60-90 cm. The effects of treatments on shoot growth increment and the number and weight of fruits produced were also determined. The data are tabulated. The highest yield (25.96 kg/tree) was obtained from irrigated trees of the cv. Rumani. Data are also tabulated on the flower production, fruit set and retention of set fruit in the cv. Bangalora.
