Abstract : Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata] is a disease of great importance as it infects a broad host range, including mango (Mangifera indica), pawpaw (Carica papaya) and banana (Musa paradisiaca). It is one of the most important fungi causing fruit rot in postharvest. It also affects flowers and fruit trees both in development and production, and the fruit can be affected at any stages of growth. This paper shows the importance of C. gloeosporioides as a phytophatogen, especially on pawpaw, and suggests some measures to control it. The integrated management of anthracnose contemplates the use of different control methods supported by the knowledge of the culture (disease susceptibility, interaction with the rootstock, phenology, affected organs and age of the garden), disease (kind of fungus, disease cycle, reproduction, dissemination, incubation period, inoculum source and survival) and climate (rainfall, temperature, dew, solar radiation and relative humidity). However, management of postharvest diseases in fruits that have been made to date are not enough to solve the serious problems that arise in this area.
