Relative effectiveness of different mechanical bands in preventing ascent of mango mealy bug.

Abstract : During a study carried out in India, 3 types of bands (Alkathene, Ostico and the Esso fruit grease band) were compared for their effectiveness in preventing the ascent of mango trees by nymphs of the mango mealy bug [Drosicha mangiferae (Green)]. Numbers of nymphs were recorded on the upper grease band, the main band, and just below the band. Maximum numbers of nymphs were recorded below the band in the case of the Alkathene band; the Ostico band was less effective and the Esso fruit grease band least effective.
