Abstract : An experiment was conducted in factorial randomized block design to determine the effect of pre-sowing treatments on germination characters of Mango cv Alphonso during 2010-2011. Twelve treatments are given by choosing two factors - seed material (whole nut and extracted kernel) and pre-sowing treatments (gibberellic acid at 250 and 500 ppm; potassium nitrate at 0.5 and 1%; water soaking and control). The experiment revealed that out of all treatments, Alphonso kernel pre-treated with potassium nitrate at 0.5% produced best results viz., minimum days taken for 50% germination (33.33 days), high rate of germination (2.57), high germination percentage (64%). Whereas short time taken for initiation of germination (7.00 days) was recorded in extracted kernel pre-treated with gibberellic acid @ 500 ppm.
