Abstract : Two field experiments were carried out in 1975-77 in Lucknow, India, to determine the effectiveness of various insecticides applied in the soil against first-instar nymphs of the mango pest Drosicha mangiferae (Green). Of the 9 compounds tested, a dust containing parathion-methyl (methyl-parathion) at 10 g a.i./tree and an emulsion containing 0.3% aldrin at 20 litres/tree were most effective against the pest. HCH (BHC), quinalphos and neem seed cake were ineffective. The best time for applying the compounds was a few days before the nymphs started to hatch.
