Abstract : It is reported that Apsylla cistellata (Buckt.) has been causing serious damage to mango in northern areas of Bangladesh, particularly the Rajshahi district, since 1978. Eggs are laid in leaf midribs in March-April. Nymphs start feeding inside the midribs in mid-August, causing the formation of gall-like structures on apical buds. This prevents inflorescence emergence and, as a result, no or very little fruiting occurs on affected shoots. Yields in both the year of infestation and the following year are greatly reduced.
