Abstract : Field experiments were carried out in Uttar Pradesh, India, to test the effectiveness of banding materials in preventing the migration of larvae of Drosicha mangiferae (Green) on mango trees. In 1974-75 a combination of Alkathene and grease was found to be most effective after 7 days, while after 14 days all 7 treatments except the quinalphos dust band were equally effective. Two further experiments in 1975-76 and 1976-77 indicated that Alkathene bands were the most effective of the materials used, followed by Ostico grease; the former was also more economical, as grease bands have to be applied twice due to drying.
