Abstract : A field study was carried out in Gujarat, India, in 1976-77 to determine the effect of chemical control of the mango hopper [Chunrocerus niveosparsus (Leth.), Idioscopus clypealis (Leth.) or Amritodus atkinsoni (Leth.)] on populations of Tetranychus urticae Koch (telarius auct.). It was found that populations on mango trees that were sprayed continuously with carbaryl invariably increased as compared with those on trees sprayed with endosulfan and those on unsprayed trees. This was thought to be due to an increase in reproductive potential of the mite which may occur as a result of spraying with carbaryl, or to the destruction of predators.
