Abstract : Enclosing the fruits in chemically treated paper bags after physiological drop completely prevented fruit fly attack, and treating the fruit with a fungicide before bagging prevented anthracnose. Bagging the fruit in May increased the attack by night moths, possibly because the white bags showed up in the dark and the chemical had disappeared before the fruit were picked if they were bagged in May, but with June bagging 96% of them remained undamaged. Four insecticidal treatments at 10-day intervals during ripening were considerably more effective than 3 at 15-day intervals in controlling fruit flies and the following products gave satisfactory results: Dipterex at 0.6%, Lebaycid at 1.8%, Anthio at 1.9% and Perfekthion at 5.0%.
