Abstract : Correlation among some fruit characters were carried out in mango. Direct and indirect effects of different characters towards fruit weight were also worked out. Twenty five cultivars of Mango were selected for the present investigation. Fruit weight exhibited positive significant correlation with fruit volume, pulp weight, peel weight, stone weight, edible: non-edible ratio, pulp:stone ratio and peel:stone ratio, and negative significant correlation with peel: pulp ratio. Fruit volume had positive significant correlation with pulp weight, peel weight, stone weight, edible:non-edible ratio, pulp:stone ratio and peel:stone ratio; and negative significant correlation with specific gravity and peel: pulp ratio. Significant positive correlation was observed between pulp weight and peel weight, stone weight, edible:non-edible ratio, pulp:stone ratio, and peel:stone ratio. Peel weight showed positive significant association with stone weight, peel:pulp ratio and peel:stone ratio. Stone weight exhibited significant positive correlation with peel:pulp ratio. Among the component characters of fruit weight, pulp weight can be considered for direct selection. Fruit volume, peel weight and stone weight could be considered simultaneously with pulp weight for selection. Path coefficient analysis indicated the strong role of pulp weight for the improvement of fruit yield of mango.
