Abstract : The symptoms and biochemical changes associated with the disease are described. Development of black spots was accompanied by higher levels of citric acid, total acidity and sucrose while there was a 3-fold decrease in total reducing sugars in infected tissues. The changes were associated with a considerable decrease in amylase and invertase activities.
