Abstract : In the Plant Pathology section (82-85) notes are given on diseases of field crops, pastures and horticultural crops; bacteriology; virology; mycology and quarantine. New diseases were tobacco wildfire (Pseudomonas [syringae pv.] tabaci) causing severe losses in the Mareeba-Dimbulah area and Phytophthora megasperma on chickpea [Cicer arietinum] and soybean.ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:From the Horticulture Branch short progress reports are included on: mechanized tomato production; nutrition of French beans and other processing vegetables; studies on kiwifruit, avocados, mangoes, macadamias, guavas and bananas; citrus research; apples and peaches; and tissue culture research.
