Abstract : When mature unripe mangoes, cv. Alphonso, were dipped post-harvest in aqueous solutions of abscisic acid (10-6M) ripening was hastened as shown by increased levels of total reducing sugars, peel carotene content and hydrolytic enzymes (amylase, cellulase and invertase) during holding at about 30 deg C. In contrast, dipping in 10-6M GA3, 10-6M IAA or 10-5M kinetin solutions delayed ripening.
