Abstract : Gibberellic acid was applied 3 times at 50 or 100 p.p.m. to entire 4-year-old trees of the cv. Baramasia at fortnightly intervals from mid-March. The numbers of male and hermaphrodite flowers opened were counted on each panicle emerging in May. All sprayed trees bore more male flowers than the controls; fewest hermaphrodite flowers resulted where GA was applied at 100 p.p.m. and most were borne on the controls. The ratio of male:hermaphrodite flowers was far higher on sprayed than on control trees.
