Abstract : Flower-bud differentiation in the mango cv. Qingpi in the Nada district of Hanan Island starts during the second half of November and reaches a peak in the first half of December. Flower buds of cv. Qiumang start to differentiate in mid-December and reach a peak in mid-January. Differentiation continues steadily without a dormant period from initiation to maturation of the inflorescence, and may be divided into five stages, with different cvs showing differences in the duration of each stage. Differentiation is not simultaneous in different parts of one tree, and the greatest number of flowers are produced on vigorous trees, and on the south and southeast side. Spraying 6-year-old trees with Ethrel [ethephon] (200 p.p.m.) increased the number of inflorescences produced.
