Abstract : At Maracay (with an annual rainfall of 850-1000 mm and 24-25 deg C average temperatures) ten mango cvs were classified according to their fruiting index, defined as the ratio between the number of fruits and the tree production surface (corresponding to the lateral surface of a truncated cone). Fruiting indices for cv. Haden for trees aged from 2 to 18 years are presented. Cvs Irwin, Sensation and Haden had the highest fruiting indices. It is suggested that the fruiting index should be included in cv. descriptions.
