Abstract : Seeds of the mango cv. Espada, with or without endocarp, were sown in substrates with or without FYM. Thirty days after sowing germination was highest (95%) in seeds without endocarp sown in a substrate containing FYM and lowest (2.5%) in seeds with endocarp sown in a substrate without FYM. Sixty days after sowing, however, the respective figures were 95 and 75%. A uniform stand was obtained from seeds without endocarp in a substrate with FYM. The FYM had no appreciable effect on seed germination rate but induced vigour into grafted seedlings. There was a positive correlation between the germination rate and seedling height but not between the germination rate and seedling diameter.
