Development of internal breakdown in Alphonso mango by post-harvest exposure of fruits to sunlight.

Abstract : In 2-year studies mango fruits were exposed to sunlight for 5-240 min immediately after harvest. The fruits were then held in wooden crates between layers of rice straw and newspaper until full maturity. The occurrence of internal breakdown rose from 10-15% in the control, to 20% after 5 min exposure, and to 100% after 120 min exposure to sunlight. Data are tabulated on the chemical composition of healthy and affected fruits.
