Influence of post harvest treatments with packaging and lining materials on spoilage loss and self life during storage of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Mallika.

Abstract : The data pertaining to spoilage loss in per cent were found significant at 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th day after storage, except treatment of lining materials at 3rd day of storage. Treatments of post harvest chemicals, packaging and lining materials were found significant for spoilage at all days of storage of mango. Significantly minimum spoilage was recorded in treatment C2 (KMno4 4 g/l) i.e.1.09, 2.31, 3.75 and 5.43 per cent at 3rd, 6th, 9th, and 12th days of storage, respectively. In case of packaging materials, treatment P2 (CFB) recorded minimum spoilage i.e. 1.20, 2.42, 3.78 and 5.58 per cent at 3rd, 6th, 9th, and 12th days of storage, respectively. In case of lining materials, treatment L3 (Paddy straw lining) recorded minimum spoilage i.e. 3.93 and 5.65 per cent at 9th and 12th days of storage, respectively. While, minimum spoilage 2.42 per cent was recorded with treatment of L1 (News paper lining) at 6th day of storage. Interactions of (C X P), (L X C), (L X P) and (C X P X L) were found non significant at 3rd, 6th, and 9th after storage. However, it was found significant at 12th days of storage (Table 4.2.1 to 4.2.4). Among the interactions, interaction of C2P2 L1 recorded minimum spoilage (4.38%) and it was remained at par with treatment combination of C2P2 L2 (4.48%) and C2P2 L3 (5.10%). Whereas, maximum rotting was found in treatment combination of C3P1 L2 (9.27%) at 12th day of storage. The maximum shelf life was recorded in treatment C2(KMnO4 4 g/l) (9.83 days) as compared to other treatments. However, minimum shelf life was found in control.
