Abstract : Mini-trees, weighing not more than 60 g each, are produced at the Hazorea Nurseries, Israel, by stopping the taproot to promote a well branched fibrous root system as soon as the seed germinates and grafting the seedling as soon as physically possible. Species include avocado, mango, citrus, cherimoya, guava, loquat, feijoa, persimmon, olive, walnut, pecan, macadamia, pistachio and carob. Handling and packing are described. A bundle of trees can travel for 7 days in tropical conditions without watering or attention. A simple, second stage nursery is necessary in the area where the trees are to be planted. Final field establishment of 100% is reported for mini-trees sent to Ethiopia and Tanzania.
