Abstract : Mango fruits with sunken, dark brown lesions, typical of anthracnose symptoms, were purchased from a fresh produce market in Bloemfontein, in May 2011, which were cultivated in Tzaneen, Malelane and Hoedspruit (Mpumalanga, South Africa). The causal pathogen was identified as Colletotrichum asianum based on cultural, morphological, genetic and pathogenicity analyses. This is thought to be the first report of C. asianum causing mango anthracnose in South Africa.
