Abstract : This monograph on tropical fruits (including subtropical fruits) is the latest publication in Longman's Tropical Agriculture Series, a comprehensive series of thorough, extensively illustrated and up-to-date books covering various aspects of agriculture in the tropics. It is aimed at both growers and students of agriculture in colleges and universities. A general introduction is followed by chapters on environment; botany of tropical fruits; crop husbandry; citrus; banana and plantain; pineapple; mango; avocado and papaya; and minor tropical fruits (those not covered in the other sections, and including cashew and other nuts). Each chapter contains a section on diseases and pests of the fruits concerned, and their control; the damage caused by individual insects is described and in some cases illustrated, and data on their biology is included where relevant. Crop, geographical and general indexes are provided.
