Abstract : Goetheana parvipennis (Gah.), which was originally known in Java as a parasite of Thrips tabaci Lind., was introduced from West Africa into Trinidad for the control of Selenothrips rubrocinctus (Giard), and from Trinidad was sent to other Caribbean islands, Hawaii, continental USA and Canada for the control of S. rubrocinctus and other Thysanoptera (being successful in controlling this species on mango in Jamaica); in 1980, it was found parasitising Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis (Bch.) on an ornamental plant, Codiaeum sp., near Nassau in the Bahamas, where it had not been released. It is not known whether the eulophid has a wider natural distribution than had been thought or whether it was introduced into the Bahamas accidentally with infested plants from Jamaica.
