Abstract : The changing pest complex attacking mango in India was studied in Uttar Pradesh in 1981. A list is given of 11 species of insects, besides birds, squirrels and porcupines, together with the plant part attacked and their economic importance. Most of the insects infested the inflorescence and were of minor importance, with the exception of the pyralid Orthaga euadrusalis Wlk., of which the larvae webbed the shoots and leaves together and fed inside, sometimes causing the defoliation of whole trees, and the termite Odontotermes wallonensis (Wasm.), which constructed earthen galleries on the roots, trunk and branches up to 6.24 ft above ground level and fed inside, causing rotting and death of the trees especially in dry places and seasons; the damage was less severe in irrigated orchards and during the rainy season.
