Abstract : IAA was increased by 98.4% and 3-indoleacetonitrile by 92.6% in mango tissues affected by bunchy top. Levels of inhibitors were higher than in healthy tissues and were similar to those produced in culture filtrates of Fusarium oxysporum, associated with the disease. Activities of IAA oxidase, peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase were 350, 118 and 32% higher, respectively, in bunchy top tissues. F. oxysporum could produce IAA oxidase in both the culture filtrate and host tissue.ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:IAA and 3-indoleacetonitrile contents were 98.4 and 92.6% lower, respectively, in bunchy-top-affected than in healthy mango seedlings. Growth inhibitor levels were, however, higher in diseased seedlings and the inhibitors resembled those detected in a Fusarium oxysporum culture filtrate. The activities of oxidase, peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase were 350, 118 and 32% higher, respectively, in bunchy-top-affected material.
