The effect of Ethrel on the flowering of mango (Mangifera indica) cv. Haden.

Abstract : Spraying 1000 p.p.m. Ethrel (48% ethephon) 3 times at 2 week intervals, starting 1 month before the initiation of flowering, and once at 500 p.p.m. one month before the normal date of flowering, increased the number of panicles by 55 and 44%, respectively, in 10-year-old Haden mango trees. The same treatments also accelerated production of panicles. These results suggest the possibility of applying Ethrel to increase the productivity of the trees and to advance the harvest season.
