Abstract : Cultivars of mango seedling were evaluated against anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Penz.) in different nurseries on the Gangetic Plains of West Bengal during February to April of 2003 to 2005 under natural condition to find out source of resistance. Marked variations in respect of disease reaction among the test cultivars were observed, the average grade ranged from resistant to highly susceptible. The different test cultivars exhibiting a particular type of reaction against anthracnose were accordingly grouped into different categories. Among the 11 common cultivars 4 cultivars, namely Alphonso, Lakshmanbhog, Mohanbhog and Langra Banarasi were resistant and 3 cultivars, namely Dashehari, Amrapali and Chine-do-phola were moderately resistant, among remaining 4 cultivars, 2 cultivars namely Baromasi and Fazli were moderately susceptible while 1 cultivar namely Subarnarekha was susceptible and another cultivar Himsagar was highly susceptible in disease reaction.
