Effect of fruit position on fruit quality of 'Num Dok Mai Sithong' mango.

Abstract : Mango fruit quality (Mangifera indica L.) was studied from three differing fruit-set positions within a canopy. This experiment was conducted on 11 year old mango trees in a farmer's orchard located in Banhat District, Khon Kaen Province, Thailand. The aim of this study was to evaluate fruit quality of naturally set fruit in three differing fruit locations in a canopy; upper outer canopy, lower outer canopy and inside the canopy. The experimental design was a completely randomized block design with 4 replications (4 trees) where all fruit in trees were bagged. The results showed that the inside of the canopy had more fruit than other canopy areas. Fruit at both stages of physiological maturity (green and yellow peel) from the upper outer canopy had the highest ratio of total soluble solids/titratable acidity (TSS/TA). However, there were no significant differences in fruit weight, fruit volume, peel, pulp and seed weight, pulp firmness, percentage of edible part, peel colour, and percentage of fruit grading in all positions.
