Abstract : The need for increased mango production is discussed and areas suitable for growing mangoes are outlined, together with areas which are less suitable due to lower soil fertility, low rainfall and problems related to soil drainage and topography. The most suitable areas include land south of San Carlos (Cojedes state), the area from Barquisimeto to Acarigua, the area between the eastern coast of Lake Maracaibo and the foothills of the Andes, and the areas surrounding Lake Valencia and Valles de Barlovento.
