Abstract : Mango (cv. Dashehari) fruits contained cytokinins in the pericarp and seed. During a period of rapid growth of fruit and seed (7-42 days after pollination), cytokinin concentration increased rapidly at 2 stages. The first preceded the period of rapid cell division and cell enlargement and the second coincided with the period of rapid cell enlargement. Cytokinin deficiency in the fruit was associated with fruit drop and cessation of fruit growth. Eleven cytokinins were isolated from immature fruit, of which 2 were tentatively identified as zeatin and zeatin riboside.
