Abstract : The Nigerian Institute for Horticultural Research was established in 1975 by the Federal Government with assistance from the United Nations Development Programme/Food and Agriculture Organization Project NIR/72/007. This report covers the work of the project entomologist from April 1978 to April 1980 on the establishment of an entomology laboratory and the identification of the major pests of fruit and vegetable crops; the crops dealt with are okra, tomato, egusi melon, amaranthus, jute (Corchorus olitorius), citrus, guava, mango, and banana and plantain. Some insecticidal trials, especially against Zonocerus variegatus (L.), are also described.
