Abstract : A rapid method is presented for the evaluation of outstanding individual trees in mango plantations. Some 24 characteristics are individually judged on a 1-10 (optimum) scale. Trees with scores of at least 150 are kept under observation. Those with scores of 180 are propagated in experimental centres and those with 200 or above (including resistance to Colletotrichum gloeosporioides) are considered suitable for extension work.
