Abstract : The symptoms described are similar to those described in 1968 [see HcA 39, 5791]. Bark cracking occurs in trees over 2 years old, and is accompanied by wood pitting. There may also be gum exudation, usually associated with longitudinal splitting of the trunk. On grafted trees symptoms may appear only on the stock or only on the scion, depending on the varietal combination used. The possible causes of the disorder are discussed. Until the cause is determined sanitary measures are advocated to avoid its spread.
