Abstract : Stigma receptivity ranged from 56.5% on the day of anthesis to 2.5% on the 3rd day after anthesis, and unpollinated ovaries continued to grow up to 6 mm in diameter. The percentage of hermaphrodite flowers and fruit set were greater in late than in early flushes. No self-incompatibility was observed but fruit retention was increased by cross pollination with the cvs Pairi, Totapuri, Dudhapedha or Vanaraj. Fruit set in Alphonso ranged from 0.61 to 0.67% and fruit drop was about 94%. Of the set fruits only 5.7% were harvested.
