Abstract : A complex of 51 species of Ptycta (Psocoptera) is reported as endemic to the Hawaiian Islands, including 39 species described as new and 12 redescribed, and a key to species-groups is provided. The origins of the species and the natural barriers preventing their spread are discussed. Most of the species were found in the canopy of forest trees, especially Metrosideros and Acacia koa, but the food-plants of P. placophora sp. n., P. diadela sp. n., P. frogneri sp. n. and P. drepana sp. n. (as P. d. drepana subsp. n.) included guava, those of P. apicantha sp. n. included mango, and those of P. distinguenda (Perkins) (which is redescribed) included both guava and mango.
