Abstract : Toxoptera odinae (v. d. Goot), which is known in the Far East as feeding on both woody and herbaceous plants (including cashew, mango, walnut and coffee), is recorded for the first time in Africa, on mango in Burundi. Its Asian food-plants are listed, but little is known of its economic importance. It is suggested that in India, Japan and other Asian countries its polyphagous feeding habits, the woody nature of its food-plants and the presence of natural enemies contribute towards making this species comparatively harmless; but none of its parasites known in these countries has yet been found in Burundi. Two parasite species present in Burundi are cited that may be capable of controlling T. odinae, Aphidius colemani Vier. and Ephedrus persicae Frogg., which are known to attack T. aurantii (Boy.).
