Abstract : Bacteria were isolated from fruits and from trunk cankers in several mango producing regions. Depressed, dark brown areas, with necrosis advancing toward the seed, were sometimes seen in fruits. On leaves small spots were usually found, and occasionally large necrotic areas near the margins. Symptoms were reproduced on inoculation. On the basis of the biochemical and physiological characters a yellow isolate was identified as Erwinia mangifera and a greyish white isolate as E. carotovora.
