Abstract : Callus was induced from the nucellus of ovules of polyembryonic cultivars (including Sabre, Chino, Ono and Turpentine) cultured on solid Murashige and Skoog medium containing 60 g/l sucrose, 100 mg/l ascorbic acid, 1-2 mg/l 2,4-D and half-strength salts. Somatic embryogenesis and maturation of embryoids occurred when callus was transferred to liquid medium of the same formulation, but without 2,4-D.
