Abstract : Of 12 Mangifera indica varieties monitored for population fluctuations of the hoppers during preflowering and postflowering periods by means of monthly sweeps of trees of uniform age, Kalapadi, Bennet Alphonso and Bangalora supported the lowest populations of Idioscopus clypealis during flowering. When adults of I. niveosparsus were confined with plants, progeny production was suppressed on shoots of Kalapadi, Bangalora, Mundappa, Neelum and Chandanam while survival was low on the other varieties. On floral branches, progeny production on Kalapadi was lower than on Chandrakaran, Goa and Prior. Progeny production by I. niveosparsus on floral branches was positively associated with nitrogen content of the branches. Overall, Kalapadi was the least susceptible to damage by the two species.
