Abstract : Flowering and early bearing during the first 4 years after planting suppresses vegetative growth. In trials with 2-year-old trees the extent of flower inhibition was similar with all GA3 concentrations (200, 50 or 25 mg/litre) applied but the response of cultivars (Keitt, Haden, Tommy Atkins and Palmer) was very different. The optimal time for GA3 application depended on climatic conditions and cultivation practices and it was not possible to give accurate recommendations.
