Abstract : Treating the cultivars Langra and Ewais with NAA at 40 p.p.m. on 1 April significantly reduced fruit drop compared with the controls or treatments with other growth regulators. Treatment with GA (500-3000 p.p.m.) on 1 November and again on 1 December inhibited flowering in the following spring. Treatment in the autumn with 0.5 or 1.0% urea 4 times or with 2% urea 3 times significantly decreased flowering in the following spring, and this effect was more pronounced in Langra than in Ewais. Application of ethephon at 500 p.p.m. six times between September and November gave the highest percentage of flowering and the greatest number of fruits/panicle.
