Abstract : The unpollinated ovaries of Alphonso, Goamankur and Kesar continued to grow for 11, 11 and 12 days, respectively, after anthesis and the average numbers of fruits set per panicle were 8.23, 2.73 and 10.73, respectively. The mean final numbers of fruits retained per panicle in the 3 cultivars were 0.40, 0.13 and 0.59, and the maximum drops of fruits were 75.77, 90.51 and 93.06% during the first 5, 6 and 7 weeks from anthesis, respectively. The loss of number of fruits was maximum during the early drop but the later drop was more serious in terms of loss by weight. On a tree basis, 9.99, 2.42 and 12.48% of the perfect flowers set fruit, out of which 4.85, 4.70 and 5.47% were carried to maturity in Alphonso, Goamankur and Kesar, respectively.
