Abstract : In Venezuela, mango fruits are attacked by fruit-flies (especially Anastrepha spp.) and several species of fruit-piercing moths. McPhail traps baited with 1, 2.5 or 5% molasses (renewed weekly) were placed in a mango orchard in Maracay, from February 1980 to January 1981; the distance between the traps was 36, 48 or 60 m (1 trap/3, 4 and 5 trees, respectively). The numbers of Lepidoptera caught (but not the numbers of Diptera) were significantly positively correlated with the concentration of molasses. The distance between traps had no significant effect on catches of insects of either Order.
