Abstract : In trials in India in 1981-2, pre-em. applications of 0.5-1.0 kg oxyfluorfen/ha or 2.0-3.0 kg fluchloralin, diuron, atrazine, terbacil or tribunil/ha after irrigation were evaluated for weed control in mango cv. Pairi nursery beds using seeds and 4- to 5-week-old seedlings. Predominant weed spp. were Cyperus rotundus, Cynodon dactylon, Eleusine indica, Commelina benghalensis, Euphorbia hirta, Mimosa pudica, Phyllanthus niruri and Stachytarpheta jamaicensis. Tribunil and terbacil treatments caused leaf scorch and leaf fall on seedlings in 1981 and were excluded from 1982 trials. All herbicides gave good weed control for up to 90 days. Germination of seeds were about 67% in hand-weeded and non-weeded controls, similar with oxyfluorfen and atrazine and higher with diuron and fluchloralin. All herbicides increased seedling stem diam, and 2.0 kg diuron/ha and 3.0 kg fluchloralin/ha increased root length.
