Abstract : The disorder, which has become serious in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, is manifested as a non-edible sour, yellowish and sponge-like patch with or without air pockets developing in the fruit during ripening and remaining small or involving the whole fruit pulp. Symptoms are not visible externally. The disorder especially affects Alphonso mango and no microorganisms have been implicated. As yet the only control is through the use of resistant cultivars and harvesting early. Biochemical changes in affected fruit and trees are described.
