Abstract : Hand deblossoming alone on 19 July (when the panicles had almost fully expanded but 90% of flowers had not yet opened), and hand deblossoming on 19 July followed by an ethephon spray (200 mg/kg) delayed flowering by 8 weeks and increased yields from 11.5 kg/tree in untreated trees to 55.1 and 39.6 kg/tree, respectively. GA3 application (10 or 20 mg/kg), on 13 June, just before flower bud burst, failed to delay flowering. Cycloheximide application (125 or 250 mg/kg) in late August caused symptoms of phytotoxicity, including curling and blackening of the main panicle axes, marginal leaf scorch and moderate leaf abscission. Axillary buds started developing only 8 weeks after cycloheximide application but the resulting flush was vegetative.
